CoSMoS™: Transforming Concrete Monitoring and Sustainability in Construction Through Real-Time Data and BIM Integration
At Cosmos Engineering, we are thrilled to share the latest developments in our groundbreaking AEC Eurocluster project. CoSMoS™ system is designed to address a critical need in the construction industry: real-time monitoring of concrete strength. With vital financial backing from the EU AEC Eurocluster (a total amount of 58.200€), our team has been able to develop and improve this innovative system, integrating CoSMoS™ with Building Information Modeling (BIM) to streamline operations and drive the industry towards a greener, more efficient future. A BIM integration that is a great step in the construction sector.
The vision behind CoSMoS™
The construction industry faces growing pressure to innovate and adopt sustainable practices, given its significant environmental impact. Thanks to the financial support we received, CoSMoS™ was developed to improve efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects. Our system uses embedded sensors to measure concrete maturity in real time, delivering critical insights into the material’s strength from the moment it’s poured until its achieved its characteristic strength.
Why real-time concrete monitoring matters
Concrete is the backbone of most construction projects, but its quality can be affected by a range of factors, from curing conditions to environmental changes. Traditional methods of monitoring concrete strength are labor-intensive, prone to delays, and lack real-time feedback. CoSMoS™ solves this by offering continuous monitoring capabilities, providing immediate, data-driven insights that can improve decision-making on-site and reduce errors.
This real-time approach enables contractors and engineers to optimize curing processes, better manage construction timelines, and ensure safer, more durable structures. In addition, this innovation offers measurable environmental benefits, helping to cut down the carbon footprint by up to 14 kg of CO₂ per cubic meter of concrete poured.
Seamless BIM integration
The CoSMoS™’s standout feature developed during this AEC project is its integration with BIM. As one of the most widely adopted digital platforms in construction, BIM provides a familiar environment for visualizing and managing building data. By integrating CoSMoS™ with BIM, we’ve created a system where real-time concrete performance data can be accessed within digital models, making it easy for project managers, architects, and engineers to assess concrete curing at a glance.
This integration not only improves ease of use but also fosters smoother adoption of new technology in an industry that often faces challenges in implementing advanced digital tools. With CoSMoS™ in BIM, construction professionals can monitor their projects’ concrete strength in real time easily.
Designed for scalability and future growth
Scalability has been central to the CoSMoS™ architecture. Both our hardware and software components were designed with future growth in mind. CoSMoS™ is fully cloud-based, allowing for streamlined data access and real-time updates across multiple devices and locations. Our network deployment options make it adaptable to projects of any size, from small buildings to large infrastructure developments.
Our commitment to scalability extends beyond technology. We have automated key processes, such as concrete model calibration, automating project proposals, etc. These initiatives lay a strong foundation for global expansion and make CoSMoS™ an attractive option for construction projects worldwide.
Aligning with global green building standards
The financial support we received has been crucial in allowing us to bring CoSMoS™ to life and position it to advance the global construction industry’s shift toward digital and sustainable practices. The system aligns with the New Industrial Strategy for Europe, particularly in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector, addressing key EU priorities like environmental performance and workplace safety. By helping reduce material waste and emissions, CoSMoS™ directly supports green building standards and contributes to a more sustainable future in construction.
Looking forward BIM integration
As we continue to refine and expand CoSMoS™, our goal is to make this technology accessible across the industry. With its real-time monitoring, scalability, and ease of integration with BIM, CoSMoS™ is poised to drive a meaningful shift in how the industry manages concrete and building data. We are excited about the future of CoSMoS™ and its potential to elevate standards in the construction industry on a global scale.
Stay tuned as we continue to push the boundaries of innovation in construction technology at Cosmos Engineering. Thanks to the financial support that helped make this project possible, together, we can build a more efficient, safer, and sustainable industry.
